Celebrating over 100 years of Celtic culture, the Miles City Caledonian Society is proud to present the Caledonian Dance Tour through the State of Montana. The Dance Tour will be visiting the Belgrade Community Library on July 3 at 5:30 p.m. for a free, all-ages performance.
The Miles City Caledonian Society has been active in Montana for over 100 years: hosting an Annual Burns Dinner celebrating the life and work of famous Scottish poet Robert Burns, Annual Highland Games, participating in numerous Montana and regional dance and bagpipe competitions, as well as being featured performers in parades. Currently the dance program has over 50 dancers, from beginning to premiere level; the organization also has a bagpipe band which travels the State for various events.
The Dance Tour will be visiting the following cities in Montana: Livingston, Bozeman, Belgrade, Whitehall, Missoula, Polson, and Whitefish. The dancers will be performing traditional Scottish Highland dances such as: Flora McDonald’s Fancy, Ghillie Cullum Sword Dance, Sailor’s Hornpipe, Irish Jig, Seann Triubhas, and the Highland Fling. Dancers will also do some modern Scottish choreography. In between the dance numbers, Society members will share cultural and historical information about Celtic peoples and the dance-styles presented. In addition to the dances, some of the performances will contain live bagpipe music.
