eBook Training and Technology Petting Zoo

To celebrate our new ebook service and Teen Tech Week 2012, the Belgrade Library is hosting a technology petting zoo and one-on-one ebook help. Join us on March 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. for a crash course on MTLib2Go, our new ebook platform. In addition to learning how to browse, checkout, and download ebooks, the public can test some of the most popular e-readers currently on the market. Kindle Fire, Nook Color, iPad, and iPod Touch will be available at our technology petting zoo. Local tech-savvy teens and the library’s system administrator will also provide technology tutoring services to patrons of all ages. Bring in your devices for help! Speak Out! with Art Workshop Series for Military Teens

Join Operation: Military Kids for the Second Annual Speak Out! with Art workshop series for Military Teens!

Youth will become a team by creating art, culminating in a wall mural at the Belgrade Library. On March 1, participants will gather to create and paint canvases. We will meet again to paint ceramics and plan the mural on March 8, and on March 29 we will paint the mural at the Library. OMK will then host a ceremony to dedicate the mural for “Month of the Military Child” in April. All events will take place between 4:00 and 6:00 PM.

This four-series workshop is designed to help youth explore and express the emotions felt when a loved one in the military is deployed. All youth between 11 and 18 are invited to participate, but youth with a military connection are strongly encouraged to attend.

This event is offered by Operation: Military Kids in collaboration with the Belgrade Community Library and Canvas Creek Team Building. Operation: Military Kids is the U.S. Army’s collaborative effort with America’s communities to support children and youth impacted by deployment. Regardless of whether Families are experiencing deployment for the first time, the second time or another in a series of multiple deployments, OMK’s goal is to connect military children and youth with local resources in order to achieve a sense of community support and enhance their well-being.

Look Who’s Talking

The Belgrade Community Library Foundation and the Vigilante Theatre Company present “Look Who’s Talking,” an evening of readings from autobiographies and memoirs available on the shelves of the Belgrade Community Library. Vigilante Theatre Company founders Rhonda Smith and John Hosking, together with local actors Thomas Q. Morris, Lila Michael, Greg Owens, and Gillian Swanson bring characters to life as they read stories written by and about the famous and infamous. Chrysti Smith, host of the local radio series “Chrysti the Wordsmith” is emcee for the event.

“Look Who’s Talking” takes place at the Belgrade Mercantile Building adjacent to Rio Sabinas on Friday, March 30, from 7:30-9:30 pm. Cash bar is available throughout the evening. Members of the Belgrade High Drama, Speech and Debate Clubs will usher. A $10 cash or check donation is suggested at the door. Profits benefit Vigilante Theatre Company, Belgrade Community Library and Belgrade High Drama, Speech and Debate teams.

Downloadable Books Coming to Belgrade Library!

This service, offered through MTLib2Go, features access to over 8,700 digital titles. Books may be downloaded for many popular devices including Kindles, Nooks, Sony Readers, iPads, iPhones, iPods, Androids, and Zunes.
